CNC Glass Processing Centers: The Buying Guide
A CNC glass processing center turns a plain rectangle into a finished part in one setup. It drills the holes, mills the notches, opens the cut-outs and grinds the edge from one program, without an operator moving the pane between four stations. For a shop that makes shaped glass, it usually decides how many jobs go out of the door in a week.
This guide covers what the machines do, how a dedicated center differs from a bridge saw with a tooling head added, the figures that decide the purchase, and what to ask before you sign. Every number comes from the machines listed on this page.
What a CNC glass processing center does, and where it sits on the line
A CNC glass processing center holds the pane on a table, usually on suction cups or a flooded bed, and moves a spindle over it under program control. The spindle carries diamond tooling. Change the tool and the same machine drills, mills, notches, engraves and grinds. The Liaoning Alger Building Material Industrial Co., Ltd. CNC Glass Processing Center describes the full process from pattern design to finished part: it cuts, drills, mills, notches shapes and grinds and polishes edges on the one bed.
On the line it sits after the cutting table and before tempering or laminating. That order matters. Everything the center does removes glass, and glass cannot be removed after tempering, so the center is the last chance to get the geometry right. Downstream the part goes to washing, then tempering, laminating, insulating glass assembly or hardware fitting.
The center replaces work that would otherwise pass through a drilling machine, a milling machine, a shape edger and often a hand polisher. That is the case for buying one: fewer handling steps, fewer chances to chip a finished edge, one program instead of four setups. The ANHUI MORNSUN INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD. CNC Glass Working Center 3 Axis makes the same point, integrating drilling, polishing and cutting in one machine for glass and mirrors of various shapes and sizes.
- Before: cutting table, breakout, sometimes a first wash
- This station: drilling, milling, notching, cut-outs, engraving, edge grinding and polishing
- After: washing, tempering, laminating, insulating glass line, hardware fitting
Types and configurations
The first split is the axis count, and it is really a question of whether the spindle can tilt. A three-axis center moves in X, Y and Z with the tool always vertical. It drills, mills and grinds a square edge, and that covers most architectural and furniture work. The ANHUI MORNSUN INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD. CNC Glass Working Center 3 Axis is built this way. A machine whose spindle tilts can put an angle on the edge. The Liaoning Alger Building Material Industrial Co., Ltd. CNC Glass Processing Center states a spindle inclination of 0 to 90 degrees and a bevel width of 5 to 40, which means bevelled mirror and decoration work runs on the same bed as the flat work.
The second split is dedicated center against bridge saw add-on. A dedicated center is a purpose-built glass machine with a table sized to the pane. An add-on turns a machine you already own into a work center. The Denver S.p.A. Piggy-Back is an integrated tooling system for Denver formula and tecnika 5-axis bridge sawing machines: an automatic tool change electrospindle with an ISO40 connection, mounted vertically beside the saw main disc motor. The saw keeps making its straight, diagonal, curved and inclined disc cuts, and the added spindle brings sink and corner cut-outs of any shape, incremental milling, blind and through holes, engraving, bas-relief and lettering.
The third split is bed size, and it is chosen by pane size rather than by output. Both dedicated centers on this page come in four bed sizes. The Liaoning Alger Building Material Industrial Co., Ltd. CNC Glass Processing Center runs BN-T2412, BN-T2620, BN-T3016 and BN-T3020, taking glass from 2400 x 1200 mm up to 3000 x 2000 mm. The ANHUI MORNSUN INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD. CNC Glass Working Center 3 Axis runs MSW-1020, MSW-1325, MSW-1525 and MSW-2030, from 2000 x 1000 mm up to 2000 x 3000 mm.
The last split is the tool magazine. Without one, every change of operation is an operator interruption. The Liaoning Alger Building Material Industrial Co., Ltd. CNC Glass Processing Center lists a tool library of 0 to 10 positions. The Denver S.p.A. Piggy-Back carries a 9-position automatic tool change magazine and switches between operations inside a single program with no operator intervention.
- Three-axis: vertical tool only, covers drilling, milling and square edge work
- Tilting spindle: adds bevels and angled edges on the same bed
- Dedicated center: purpose-built table, sized to the pane
- Bridge saw add-on: an ATC electrospindle beside the disc motor, turning a saw into a work center
- Tool magazine: the difference between an unattended program and a stop at every operation
How it works, step by step
The cycle is the same on every machine here. What separates them is how much of it runs without an operator standing at the bed.
Speed comes from two places: how fast the axes travel between operations, and how fast the tool changes. The Liaoning Alger Building Material Industrial Co., Ltd. CNC Glass Processing Center publishes X and Y speeds of 35 to 50 m/min and a Z speed of 15 m/min, with accuracy of 0.01, 0.02 and 0.01 mm and repeatability of 0.005, 0.01 and 0.005 mm. Those rapid speeds decide how much of the cycle is cutting and how much is travel.
- 1. Draw or import the part, then post the program with the tool list and the order of operations
- 2. Set the suction cups or the support pattern clear of every hole and cut-out line
- 3. Load the pane and reference it against the machine stops
- 4. Drill and mill, with the magazine changing tools inside the same program
- 5. Grind and polish the edge, tilting the spindle if the part carries a bevel
- 6. Flush the bed, unload, and return water and glass sludge to the settling tank
The figures that decide the purchase
Eight numbers do most of the work. Read them against the parts you actually make, not against the largest pane the table can hold.
| Figure | Range across the machines on this page | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum glass size | 2000 x 1000 mm up to 3000 x 2000 mm | Bed size is fixed at purchase, so it sets the ceiling on what you can quote for |
| Minimum glass size | 100 x 100 mm and 200 x 200 mm | Suction cups need surface to hold, and small parts are the first thing a big table refuses |
| Glass thickness | 2 to 19 mm, and 3 to 40 mm | The 40 mm ceiling opens structural and balustrade work that a 19 mm machine cannot touch |
| Spindle speed | 0 to 10000 r/min, 3000 to 12000 r/min, up to 12000 rpm on the Piggy-Back | Low speed for large cores, high speed for milling, engraving and fine polishing |
| Spindle power | 4.5 kW / 6 HP (S6) on the Piggy-Back, 11 kW on the MSW models | Sets how deep a pass can be taken without stalling or chattering |
| Installed power | 18 kW to 28 kW | MSW-1020 at 18 kW rises to 28 kW on MSW-2030, and the Alger center lists 25 kW |
| Tool magazine positions | 0 to 10 on the Alger center, 9 on the Piggy-Back | Every tool the magazine cannot hold is an operator interruption mid-program |
| Accuracy and repeatability | 0.01 / 0.02 / 0.01 mm accuracy and 0.005 / 0.01 / 0.005 mm repeatability on X, Y and Z | Hole-to-hole and edge-to-hole error is what makes hardware bind on assembly |
Choosing by what you produce
Start from the part that fills most of your week, then confirm the machine still handles the jobs at the edges of your range.
| What you produce | Configuration that fits | Machine to look at |
|---|---|---|
| Architectural and building glass | Large bed, thick glass capability, edge grinding on the same setup | Liaoning Alger Building Material Industrial Co., Ltd. CNC Glass Processing Center, to 3000 x 2000 mm and 3 to 40 mm |
| Shower doors and bathroom glass | Drilling, notching and polished edges in one program | Liaoning Alger Building Material Industrial Co., Ltd. CNC Glass Processing Center, which names bathroom glass as an application |
| Furniture glass and mirrors | Three-axis center handling shapes and mirror stock | ANHUI MORNSUN INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD. CNC Glass Working Center 3 Axis, which processes glass and mirrors of various shapes and sizes |
| Decorative and glass art work | Engraving and shaped cut-outs under program control | ANHUI MORNSUN INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD. CNC Glass Working Center 3 Axis for cutting, engraving and drilling |
| Bevelled mirror and decoration glass | Tilting spindle with a stated bevel width | Liaoning Alger Building Material Industrial Co., Ltd. CNC Glass Processing Center, spindle inclination 0 to 90 degrees, bevel width 5 to 40 |
| Countertops and sink cut-outs alongside slab sawing | Bridge saw with an ATC tooling head added | Denver S.p.A. Piggy-Back, which adds sink and corner cut-outs of any shape and a hole-perimeter drop for flush-fit sinks |
| Shops that already own a 5-axis bridge saw | Add a spindle rather than buy a second machine | Denver S.p.A. Piggy-Back, available for Denver formula and tecnika bridge sawing machines |
What a quote should include
Ask for the price factory-direct, then ask for every line that sits on top of it. Tooling and software are where two quotes usually stop being comparable. Request pricing in writing with these items listed separately.
- Machine price factory-direct, with the exact model code and bed size named
- Export crating, and whether the crate is seaworthy plywood or a steel frame
- Freight to your named port or door, and who handles customs clearance
- Installation: levelling, water, air and power connection, and who provides the drain
- Commissioning: first parts cut from your own drawings and signed off
- Training: how many days, at your plant or theirs, and in which language
- CAD and CAM software: whether it is included, how many seats, and what DXF import it accepts
- Tooling: which tools ship with the machine and which are extra, and the magazine positions they occupy
- Spare parts kit: spindle bearings, seals, pumps, filters and sensors
- Warranty: length, what is covered, and how a failed part reaches you
- Supply voltage and frequency, stated as 380V 50Hz on the MSW models, plus water and air demand
Lead times, installation and running costs
Lead time follows the bed size and the options. A catalogue bed with a standard magazine ships sooner than a machine built around an unusual table. Both dedicated centers here come in fixed size families, which is a good sign for delivery. Ask for a written date and confirm what starts the clock, the deposit or the final drawing approval.
Installation is mostly preparation done before the machine arrives. A CNC center is a wet machine. It needs a level floor that tolerates water, a drain, a settling tank and clean recirculated coolant. It needs compressed air for the suction cups and the tool change. The MSW models state 380V 50Hz, and if your plant runs a different frequency the quote must say who supplies the transformer.
Running cost is dominated by diamond tooling and by compressed air, not by electricity. Installed power here runs from 18 kW to 28 kW, small next to a furnace. Tool life falls when coolant is dirty or the tool is pushed harder than the spindle can hold, so a rotating joint for internal tool lubrication, as on the Denver S.p.A. Piggy-Back, protects the tooling budget.
Mistakes buyers make
Five errors account for most of the disappointment with this class of machine.
- Buying bed size on the largest pane you have ever quoted. The bed is fixed for the life of the machine, but so is the minimum: a table sized for 3000 x 2000 mm work still refuses parts below 200 x 200 mm, and small hardware panels then need a second machine.
- Ignoring the thickness ceiling. A 2 to 19 mm machine covers shower and furniture work and stops dead at structural glass. If balustrades are in your plan, the 3 to 40 mm class is the one to price.
- Under-sizing the tool magazine. A 9 or 10 position magazine runs a mixed part without a stop. A machine bought with two tools loaded turns every operation change into an operator interruption, and the cycle time on the datasheet stops meaning anything.
- Treating a tilting spindle as an extra you can add later. Bevel capability is built into the machine. If bevelled mirror or decoration work is part of the business, the spindle has to tilt from day one.
- Planning the machine and forgetting the shop around it. No drain, no settling tank, no compressed air of the right volume, no room to load a 3000 mm pane from the correct side. These are cheap to fix on paper and expensive to fix once the machine is bolted down.
Machines on GlassMachines.net
Three machines in this category, covering two distinct approaches.
- Dedicated centers. Liaoning Alger Building Material Industrial Co., Ltd. CNC Glass Processing Center: the widest capability on this page, taking 3 to 40 mm glass up to 3000 x 2000 mm across four bed sizes, with a spindle that tilts 0 to 90 degrees for bevels and a tool library of up to 10 positions. ANHUI MORNSUN INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD. CNC Glass Working Center 3 Axis: a three-axis center for 2 to 19 mm glass and mirrors across four bed sizes to 2000 x 3000 mm, with an 11 kW spindle running 3000 to 12000 r/min, aimed at glass art, architectural and furniture work.
- Bridge saw add-on. Denver S.p.A. Piggy-Back: not a stand-alone machine but an ATC electrospindle mounted beside the disc motor on Denver formula and tecnika 5-axis bridge sawing machines, adding milling, drilling, engraving and shaped cut-outs to a saw you already run, with a 9-position magazine and a 4.5 kW spindle to 12000 rpm.
Specs to compare, in one list
- Maximum glass size
- The bed cannot be changed later, so it fixes the largest job you will ever be able to quote.
- Minimum glass size
- Suction cups need surface area, and small parts are the first thing a large table cannot hold.
- Glass thickness range
- A 19 mm ceiling rules out structural and balustrade glass, which is often the highest-margin work.
- Spindle inclination
- A tilting spindle is the difference between square edges only and bevelled decoration work on the same bed.
- Tool magazine positions
- Magazine size decides whether a mixed part runs unattended or stops at every change of operation.
- Spindle power and speed
- Sets how deep each pass can go, which drives cycle time far more than rapid travel speed does.
- Axis speed, accuracy and repeatability
- Rapid speed governs the non-cutting part of the cycle, and repeatability governs whether hardware fits.
- Installed power and supply voltage
- These decide the connections your plant must provide before commissioning can even start.
Questions buyers ask
What is the difference between a CNC glass processing center and a CNC glass cutting table?
A cutting table scores and breaks the sheet into rectangles or shapes. A processing center removes material with diamond tooling: holes, notches, cut-outs and ground edges. They sit in sequence, not in competition. The cutting table produces the blank and the center finishes it.
Do I need a 5-axis machine or is 3-axis enough?
Three axes cover drilling, milling and square edge grinding, which is most architectural and furniture work. You need a tilting spindle when the part carries a bevel or an angled edge. The Liaoning Alger Building Material Industrial Co., Ltd. CNC Glass Processing Center states 0 to 90 degrees of spindle inclination with a bevel width of 5 to 40, while the ANHUI MORNSUN INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD. CNC Glass Working Center 3 Axis keeps the tool vertical.
Can a CNC glass processing center replace my drilling and edging machines?
For shaped and low-volume parts, largely yes, because drilling, milling and edge work happen in one setup. For high volumes of plain rectangles a straight-line edger is still faster, because the center processes one part at a time under program control. Most shops run both and send shapes to the center.
How thick a glass can these machines handle?
It depends on the machine, and the split is wide. The ANHUI MORNSUN INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD. CNC Glass Working Center 3 Axis covers 2 to 19 mm. The Liaoning Alger Building Material Industrial Co., Ltd. CNC Glass Processing Center covers 3 to 40 mm, which brings structural and balustrade thicknesses into range. Check this before bed size, because it rules models out faster.
Can I add CNC capability to a bridge saw I already own?
Yes, if the saw supports it. The Denver S.p.A. Piggy-Back is an integrated tooling system for Denver formula and tecnika 5-axis bridge sawing machines. It mounts an ISO40 automatic tool change electrospindle vertically beside the main disc motor, so the saw keeps making disc cuts and gains milling, drilling, engraving and shaped cut-outs from the same program.
What does a CNC glass processing center need from my plant?
Power, water, air and drainage. The MSW models state 380V 50Hz supply and total power from 18 kW to 28 kW depending on bed size, and the Alger center lists 25 kW installed. All of them need compressed air for the suction cups and tool change, a level floor that tolerates water, and a settling tank so glass sludge does not reach the drain.
