Cugher Glass Vision Systems and Quality Control

A set of camera-based inspection stations placed at different points on a Cugher line: glass quality control after washing, printing quality control after printing, automatic frame adjustment, and frame breakage detection.

• Glass Quality Control, installed after washing, checks for glass irregularities such as scratches, breakages, air bubbles or water droplets, applying tolerance levels that can be preset with different thresholds in different areas of the glass
• Printing Quality Control recognizes imperfections by referencing predefined parameters and displays detected defects directly on the glass's video image; if errors are attributable to incorrect frame positioning, the system allows automatic correction of the position within certain limits without interrupting production
• Automatic Frame Adjustment: the screen frame is autonomously positioned by cameras and servo motors installed below the printing table, reducing format changeover to simply inserting the frame quickly
• Frame Breakage Detection, positioned immediately after printing, checks for ink spots on the underside of the glass resulting from frame breakage, using cameras and a contrast roller, preventing ink contamination of the line

Cugher Glass S.r.l., founded in 1967 in Novate Milanese, Italy, states it was among the first companies in the world to automate the screen-printing process on flat glass. The company designs and builds silk-screen printing lines together with the handling, drying and inspection equipment built around them, for glass processors in the automotive, home appliance and solar panel sectors. Cugher states its automotive line customers include AGP, Sisecam, Saint Gobain and AGC, and that it built five production lines for Enel Green Power's 3Sun Gigafactory in Catania, Italy, working with partner Bottero S.p.A.
